In a first among Indian banks, HDFC will issue ‘masala bonds’ or its overseas rupee denominated bonds on the London Stock Exchange. The lender plans to raise $750 million through these bonds.

The gold monetization scheme allows depositors to avail regular interest on their gold in the form of jewellery, bars or coins. The deposits will earn interest based on the weight of gold they have deposited. Know more about the benefits of this scheme.

State Bank of India will be the first Indian bank to launch wallet services for smart phones. The product is named ‘Batua’ and will be available for non-SBI customers also.

Federal Bank opened its International banking unit at the International Financial Centre in Ahmedabad. The IIFC already has Yes Bank as the first bank to open here. The bank that operates from this centre is equivalent to a foreign branch.

The chief economist of Asia Pacific at Barclays, David Fernandez is advising clients not to ignore India. His forecast for the next fiscal is strong growth.

The Association of Mutual Funds has appointed consultant to relook at the risk management guidelines that govern the industry. The association hopes to bring in measures to safeguard investor interests.

Mutual Funds can now be distributed through e-commerce according to SEBI. The challenges in this proposal are many and it remains to be seen in what manner the e-commerce players sell the funds.
