CAMS in Association with Rotary Club of Madras South (RCMS) has been sponsoring Free Tailoring Training Course to the students of Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School in Saidapet, since 2014.
An event marking the Valediction for the last batch of students who were inducted into the course last year and the official induction of the current year’s batch, was held on 18th July 2016 (Monday), in the school premises at Saidapet.
The event was presided over by Ms. Asha Marina, President, RCMS. Mr. P. B. Vijayaraghavan, Officer on Special Duty, CAMS, addressed the gathering and awarded Certificates to the participants who had successfully completed the training programme that began in 2015.
Mr. Vijayaraghavan, in his speech, underlined the need and value of imparting skill development training programmes to the students, and remarked on how such skill proficiencies could help students tackle issues of economic security and self-sufficiency, should the need arise.
He emphasized on the importance of imparting financial literacy to students, that would empower the future generation with the ability to make informed economic decisions, which in turn will take financial inclusion to new levels in the nation.
One of the highlights of the event was that the students of the 2015 batch attended the event wearing the very uniforms they had stitched on their own. It was heartening to see the students as beamed with pride and confidence, walking over to collect their certificates, in outfits fashioned by their own hands.
It is remarkable that the institution is alma mater to Miss M.E. Anitha and Miss. S. Bhuvaneswari who had secured the first rank among corporation schools in the SSLC examinations held earlier in 2016. To deliver such excellent results, the teachers and staff of the institution had worked ceaselessly in the aftermath of the 2015 Chennai floods, in which Saidapet was one of the worst affected regions.
CAMS takes immense pride in partnering with an institution that has contributed immensely towards education of girls from the economically underprivileged strata of the society.
CAMS, as an organization, believes in giving back to the society and has rolled out several initiatives on the lines of Corporate Social Responsibility, working closely with several well-known NGOs and Social Welfare Organizations that serve genuinely and work for the betterment of the society at large.
